About Latium
Rome, the capital of modern Italy, the heart of the Roman Empire and centre of Christianity, is the main town in Latium. But Latium is not just Rome – we offer superb accommodation throughout the region, with a great selection of holiday villas and self catering apartments in all of the best parts of Latium.
North of Rome, you will find the Etruscan archaeological sites, tombs and monuments of Tarquinia and Viterbo as well as the banks of Lakes Bracciano and Bolsena, known to be the cleanest lakes in Europe. Here you can swim or just enjoy the picturesque town of Anguillara on the south shore. Whilst winding your way through the narrow streets of the medieval Anguillara do not fail to try local restaurants where you can sample the delights of roman cuisine at reasonable prices. The lakes have several beaches scattered along their shorelines and all water sports can be practised. However motorboats are not allowed on Lake Bracciano as it serves as a reserve water reservoir for the city of Rome.
South of Rome, you will find the lively coastal towns of Terracina and Sperlonga on the Riviera di Ulisse. Savour the combination of quaint small villages with their white washed stone houses and miles of white sandy beaches. Between Rome and Naples, this is the ideal location if you want to visit the two cities, staying away from their busy city centres. Terracina boasts long sandy beaches, good nightlife and plenty of restaurants, Sperlonga, just south of Terracina, is beautiful because of its towers, houses and narrow alleyways, reminiscent of times and styles long gone. Beautiful wide sandy beaches make it the perfect destination for families and all those who love being by the sea and yet living in a charming medieval small town.
