Lago Maggiore is a magical glacial lake anchoring the mountains which step up into the Italian Alps. This is the heart of the 'Lakes District' of Italy, an area with a noted northern influence blending beautifully with all things Italian.

An area devoted to being outdoors on land or water, with plenty of small villages to explore and more than enough stunning scenery to fill a vacation. There is excellent hiking in the Valle Grande and elsewhere and equally excellent golfing opportunities with 7 golf courses. Tours include Stresa, the Borromeo Islands, Brissago Islands, Arona, Villa Taranto and its botanical gardens and more. Many fabulous restaurants are located in the area, as well as cafés and shops. For the more active, sailing, canoeing, windsurfing, water skiing, trekking, horse riding are available.

When To Visit

In terms of weather, if you’re looking for long, sun-filled days, April through October are your best months. If you’re after swimming, choose July, August and September. The water is warm, but keep in mind those are also the busiest months of the year.

Rainfall is not unusual during the summer time, with night being colder than what you’d expect – so pack an umbrella for safety.

November through March is a period of good deals in terms of pricing, but beaches and swimming pools are either closed or not suited for swimming. You’re left with visiting and relaxing during this time.
If you’re looking for villas to rent during the winter, be aware that temperatures will hit single digits starting with December, all the way through February. While it might look great during the winter time, activities are mostly restricted, few shops open, so pack accordingly.

Be the first to book your villa holiday in one of our luxury villas in Lake Maggiore and let us know if we can help with other recommendations.
