There are walking trails around the area that allow you to spend some time outdoors while learning about ancient history.
Don’t leave without seeing the Grosseto Cathedral, which was built between the 12th and 14th centuries, as well as the ancient Medicean Walls. If you have some time, stop into the Maremma Museum of Archeology and Art, and take a few moments to relax and people-watch in Piazza Dante. The best time to visit Grosseto is between April and June because the weather isn’t too hot and there is hardly any rain. If you want to experience the colours of fall, make your way to Grosseto between October and November but keep in mind that fall is often the rainy season. Also, note that the seasons with the best weather often attract the most tourists. If you want a trip that’s less crowded and slightly cheaper, consider visiting Grosseto in the offseason.
How to Get There
Grosseto can be easily reached by train, especially from the major airports in Tuscany. If you fly into Pisa, Florence, or Rome, expect various railway options that will take you to Grosseto, usually with a train switch in between. If you’ve rented a car, you can easily take E80 (SS1) which connect Pisa and Rome to Grosseto. Expect a trip that is 1 hour and 45 minutes from Pisa and 2 hours and 15 minutes from Rome.
