Pisa is a relatively small city known for its famous leaning tower. While the main attraction is visiting the Leaning Tower of Pisa, and taking the obligatory tourist photo, Pisa has a lot more to offer. Start off at the tower, taking photos, viewing the architecture and relaxing on the grounds, but then head off to explore.

Check out the other architectural gems like the Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta, the Baptistery, and the Campo Santo courtyard.

Stroll along the Arno River and visit the National Museum of Pisa, and the small but beautiful church, Santa Maria della Spina. In fact, take your time strolling along the river, is this is often considered the most beautiful area in Pisa. Do some high-end shopping along the Borgo Stretto, visit the ancient ruins of Guelph Tower, and spend some time wandering around the University of Pisa Botanical Gardens. Once you’ve explored the city, take a few hours to explore the foodie scene. Taste the wine, eat the gelato, and get in a few more pictures at the leaning tower once the crowds have died down.

While many people stop in to Pisa for a day trip, this quaint city is worth an overnight stay so you can enjoy the food, wine, and beautiful attractions.

Best Time To Visit Pisa

The best time to visit Pisa is between April and June because the weather is warm and mild and rain is infrequent. If you want to experience the colours of fall, head to Pisa between October and November but keep in mind that fall is often the rainy season. Visit in June if you want to catch the festivities and celebrations of the patron saint, San Ranieri, and avoid winter if you don’t like cold temperatures.
