Located at the foot of the Apuan Alps, Lucca is a small, yet charmingly beautiful city in Tuscany. Its ancient history and easy access make Lucca a popular choice for day-trippers who want to learn more about the local, Italian culture.

The medieval city walls and a large number of churches are top attractions, so make sure to spend plenty of time exploring them.

While visiting Lucca, make sure to see the town cathedral, wander around the main square, Piazza dell Anfiteatro, and stroll atop the historic city wall. Lucca is full of beautiful architecture, with highlights like Basilica of San Frediano, Museum of villa Mansi, and San Michele in Foro. If you like nature make sure to visit the botanical garden, wander around the grounds of the old aqueduct, or go a little farther than Lucca and marvel at the beautiful, Parco Alpi Apuane.

While many people add Lucca onto their itinerary as a day trip, this small city is worth staying the night. This way, you can watch the sun go down over the city wall while you enjoy a glass of wine and a hearty Tuscan meal.
